What is the name of this movie?

Ok I know it came out either in the late 80's or the 90's it is about a boy who gets this game where there is like this monster/Demon man that comes out of it and I can't remeber if he makes the boy kill people or if the monster is killing people and I think the killings happen at night when the boy thinks he is sleeping?? Please help it is driving me crazy
