Is HP really better than a dell laptop?

i love the hp laptop , but my dad says dell is better (probly cuz hes a cheap ***) but im so confused , some ppl say hp is way better but some say dell is!!? I need to know . I made a tally chart and 26 people said hp, and 24 said dell.. can someone please help me! (oh and i would rather hear the good stuff about dell,and bad stuff about HP, becuase im probably going to have to get dell!)
